I bought a used xbox with a modchip in it,so i took the chip out to play on live because it's a very old chip, and now it won't boot.I dont know whats going on,the chip is out and all the wires are removed. The hd is fine......What could be going on?

you could have solder bridges, broken traces or the contents of the harddrive might be rearranged from a stock xbox.
But 9 times out of 10 the harddrive was not locked and the error should be 13 on the right hand corner. To solve you have to install the chip again, run a program called configmagic and lock the hardrive, then you can successfully remove the chip without any errors.

i'm not getting an error number.it just says that the xbox needs service.

i also have another xbox that was softmodded with sid 4 and i was trying to unmod it using the uninstall option of the softmod but it wouldn't uninstall.i put the slayer's disc in and did a reformat HD and now it just says the xbox needs service but there is no error code.

the problem is that the hardrives are locked with a code, if the code is inactive the box will not boot, when the chip is installed it injects this code to the eeprom and the security is bypassed.
To fix them both you'll have to install the chip and make sure the drives are locked with the code. I think it's all a case of not having the lock code active on the harddrive.

Pepsik is correct...
Or the Xbox got a problem in the first place and the previous ownwer fitted a chip to cure the problem.
