Since I put real player on my computer all my mp3s automatically play thru it, is there any way of telling the computer to play thru mediaplayer as default

Re-associating them with wmp should do it. When you install realplayer you get asked what files you want to associate with it you should have left mp3 unchecked.
Not sure if real player will try and take the extension back or not.

You can go and change the options in real player. If that doesnt work, the only decent thing to do is uninstall the most shitty player on planet earth, real player

Yep, the software from real networks for real player is, to be quite honest, the spawn of the devil!
I advise people to download RealAlt - a free program that doesn't take over your system, doesn't 'report' usage information and isn't bloated with useless rubbish. It doesn't even need you to install real player beforehand.
Even though it has nothing to do with real networks it has played every single real media file I've thrown at it!
Do a search for it as it's well worth a download!

Just go into my computer and then View and folder options and then the file types, then go down to the .mp3 file ext and change the application that it should use to play them

Actually unlike Nero showtime Real Player doesn't steal extensions. Personally I have real player installed for its codecs, but never use it.

The ez'est way to get wmp to play everything, is just open it, go to Tools>Options>File Types and just select all, than hit OK.
BTW: Real Player does suck. It was ok in the old versions, but this RealOne crap pisses me off!

you can use real alternative with media player classic for that- there are things that it can't handle (some real video stuff and its had problems with streaming video)
but i listen to several bbc radio stations with the real alternative+mpc combo- you could also do what celtic_druid suggests and keep real on your pc and get mediaplayer classic- that way it copes with all real media stuff- as i think the real alt pack doesn't contain all the codecs/filters that you'd get in a full blown real player install- but its good enough for bbc radio

Should also be able to play streaming real audio via mplayer. Not tried it personally though.
