After the lightning storm turn pc on the fan on the processor fan is working but all the drives on ide 2 are not working and there is no display on the monitor, the hard drive doesnt seem to be working either its a 160 gb sata hd, is the mobo had it or what?. There are no beeps when u turn it on either.
Its a p4 3.0 ghz northwood proceesor
160 gb hd (sata)
windows xp pro
1024 ddr 400 ram
I built this machine just over a year ago!
Any ideas please?

Im just curious did you have a surge protector?

Just sold it to a friend about 2 weeks ago and he didnt have a surge protector although i did when I had it m8

Tried another hard drive on ide 1 still nothing also when the dvd drive is plugged into ide 1 it wont eject but if u unplug the ide cable it will eject, still no display, tried swapping the ram but nothing and also tried the onboard graphics card but still no display!.
Also removed the sata hd and put in a 80 gb ide drive on ide 1 still the same. Going to try short the jumper to reset the bios to default settings ill let u know what happens then!

are you saying it was'nt protected with a surge protector when you had the storm if so then something is damaged.

Yes m8 it wasnt protected when they had the storm although they say they didnt switch it on, but im not convinced m8, what do u think it could be m8?

to be honest could be anything that's been damaged from psu/motherboard/ram/graphics card/harddrive/cpu or any part of the pc i haven't mentioned.

God damn that narrows it down lol.
Think im going to have 2 see if I can borrow someone elses pc and plug all the bits in till I find what is at fault. Cheers anyway m8
