My friend said that it wasnt a good idea to fill all of the slots on my socket 939 board (nforce4 if that's important) and i forgot to ask him why, and i can't right now, seeing as he's not online...

I've got 2*512 mb (ddr400), and was hoping to swap out my 2 stix that i have, and replace them with some ddr500 2*1gb stuffs. But it just occured to me that i do have 4 slots, why not fill them up? 3gb is better than 2 =P (well... maybe not significantly)

It shouldn't make any difference how you populate the mobo, but what will make a difference is the RAM you choose and whether you mix them.

Go to either Crucial or Corsair's websites and use their 'Memory Advisor' tool.

Avoid cheap unbranded/generic RAM, as many newer boards are more choosey. Also if you buy the recommende RAM from either of the above and it isn't compatible, they will refund or exchange it.

Next time ask your friend why they would waste the time and money to put those slot on if you can't use them all. ...I'd like to know what creative excuse he makes up. :)
