Someone traded in a copy of ffxi with the hdd at the local EB, and they let me have dibs on it. I put it in, and it recognizes it(can see it in browser, have not tried to copy anything yet), but when I try to put a game in, it will only work if the chip is disabled. Even originals won't boot when the chip is enabled, with the hdd installed. Is this true for all chips/is there a current way around this? I'm guessing that it'll be worth the $40 to keep it until maybe someone cracks it or something, but I'm a little disappointed at the moment.

(sidenote, my old 'flashing' problem is back. Does the dms3 have any LED's on it? Sometimes, during certain backups, and especially tonight, I get some sort of flashing under the control ports. Doesn't really seem to affect much, but it's pretty frightening hehe. I'll try to crop up a video of it and host it at some point, just too tired to do it right now)

No other chips will work with the official sony HD you have to boot with the chip disabled to get original games to work with other chips.

The flashing is comming from the network adaptor and it is normal should occur when you try to play an online games

okay, the reason for the flashing eases my mind.. I was really worried and pretty much had stopped playing most games because of it. Unfortunately the backups of my games don't seem to work with the HD installed, but hopefully there will be a bios update that fixes that. Thanks for the info
