I am trying to update my IPOD 20 gig device. I bought new music (stupid?) and wanted to load it to my device. So I plug in the firewire and it starts transferring music (it was empty since I had to make an appt online as the store won't see you otherwise-they are too busy! they reformatted it on a MAC and I had to do it again on Windows 2000 Pro when I got home). Anyhow, it stopped transferring after 285 songs. Tried a fix, then it got to 485 songs of 2500 total before "delayed write failed, data lost, etc" b/s. BUT the IPOD shows only NINE SONGS. 9!!!!! I can't figure out how to fix this problem and don't know enough to do that. And YES, I am the one who just had my IPOD replaced in September. I guess I should have bought the $59 warranty as I could just keep getting a new one when the hard drive dies, which it apparently does after just 8-9 months! Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Do you have all the Windows 2000 service packs and updates installed? There are a couple win2000 updates related to external harddrives. Beyond that a delayed-write error usually means the computer was sending data faster then the drive can actually write it. Instead of sending alot of songs all at once, send them in smaller batches and give the iPod a little time to actually catch up between batches.

the iPod synchs via firewire so I have no control over the speed. I found a temporary fix online. So far, so good. I had to run a scandisk and change a few things but it works fir now. I had all the service packs unstalled. Thanks!
