when i turn my computer of it gets to the point were it says now shutting down but does not,it has just started doing this ,i have run spyware and virus progy it comes up clean, the only other thing that is odd and may not be related is a couple of photos were in my pictures folder and no body no;s who they are spooky to say the least:saywhat: i am on windows xp service pack 2 with updates etc 2.8 amd chip 1 gig of ram and an abit mobo any thoughts please would be gratefull to say the least ps dvd rom guide still the best people and the best site from a greatfull discoman:cheers:

you tried starting up in safe mode and doing a scan?

also run-msconfig and see if their are any mystery programs starting up that shouldn't.

finally do a ctrl-alt-del and goto www.answersthatwork.com (http://www.answersthatwork.com) and see what exactly is running

You could disable any sound schemes you have active as it may be a corrupt shutdown sound file, try PC Rescue or Registry Mechanic. As for the photo's, when you say no one knows does this mean you asked everyone who uses it who come out with things like
Not Me!
How did they get there!
Dunno!
I never download anything!
I didn't use it last!
They are not mine!
Must have happened from an auto update!

What are the filenames of the pictures? Windows XP does comes with a set of 9 or 10 sample Photos.

hi m8 thanks for the reply ,there not funny stuff like porno there photos of people we dont no, and the only ones who use the computer are my other half myself and daughter i will try the remedys you sugest and i will get back to you ,just for info the said photos have been deleated ok and have not come back suppose its one of lifes mysteries,o and i tried limewire for half an hour but got rid of it could it be something to do with that:confused: ps guys your the best and i cant thank you all for your help and time:cheers:

have you got wireless router
mine was doing this recently and i found it was my netgear wg111 wireless dongle.
put the latest update on for it and its ok now
