Hi

I have a pioneer 104..yesterday i was burning dvds but when i checked them they werent working apart from on the comp through the writer...then i tried writing an audio CD when it died i.e. wouldn't burn...then when i restarted my comp no power was going to my dvd writer..i checked the wires in the comp and all ok then i checked the dvd writer on the system (properties) and the firmware version just said 0000 instead of the actual 1.30 that it was....Anyone got a clue what has happened...IS it dead now????

any help appreciated

Sounds as if possibly the firmware chip has become corrupted (refusing to burn correctly is a sign; I had this trouble repeatedly with an Aopen CDRW which was always cured with a reflash, until eventually the EEPROM just died through being flashed too many times). There are utils available that will allow you to force the firmware to any version; might be worth a go.
