Any help appreciated,Thanks.

Hmmmm. ..... if it's not getting detected in bios, it doesn't sound too good.

It might still be worth trying another lead and, if you haven't already, try it as Master on the Secondary channel.

Hi Phil grateful as usual, have got the maxtor util disc, has come up with failure code de9b6b7d looked on there site and they say for 8 digit codes major failure,so i guess thats the drive gone up spout,is it usually just the 12 month warranty you get on a hd? Cant remember exactly when i bought it.

Yeah the Maxtor's usually only have 12 months.
If you need to buy a new one, the Seagate drives come witha 5 year manufacturers warranty.

You should download the Maxblast Utility from the Maxtor web site.
It allows you to run various non data destructiove tests on the drive to determine if the drive has a problem.

If the drive should fail the test, the utility will gerenated a code that is used for generating an RMA directly on the Maxtor web site. The utility also reveals the drive's serial number which can be used on the Maxtor web site to automatically determine warranty status.

Just noticed that you already have the utility.

Yep have done that thats what the fault code comes from, but on the bright side i put my serial No in on the maxtor site and it told me drive is covered till March Next Year,so free replacement on way, already got the rma number so just a matter of waiting now.Must of had a reasonable warranty on it cause i know i have had it longer than 2 years. Thanks for everyones input.
