Best is a dvd recorder. Like a panasonic e50.

There are also dvd recorder/vhs units. They do a good job as long as your tape is not copy protected. These combo units are about the same price as the Panasonic unit, about $359.My nephew as one from Sylvania.

There are many program that would do that which what they simply did is convert the avi file to mpeg2 video file. you can check out www.dvdrhelp.com (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/) for the best guide that would fit your quailty need or time consuming.

But by converting avi to other format, time is the cost, you better get a fast computer if you don't want to speed hours is avearge or days (over night) is the worst if you want great quailty.

Yup, I would say you are looking at at least 2-3 hours for the whole conversion process with a decent machine.
