Yesterday I made a fatal error while playing on my Xbox 360, I tilted the console so that it was standing vertical while a game was booting up. :(
I heard, what sounded like a chainsaw going off inside the console. It wasn't until I ejected the disk and looked at the underside of it I saw what had happened....a perfect circular scratch all around the disk :(:(:(
The game doesn't work now but I was more worried if there was a problem with the console more than anything else. I googled the problem and found a stack of info on this, but I'm now wondering if the disk can be repaired with some sort of cleaning solution. Is this possible?
any info from this would be great.
Cheers, drewsie
Is it really deap? If it isn't too deap you may be able to use a scratch remover, but it probably wont work.
As for what else you can do... I hate to say it but I don't think there is much else you can do. I don't think MS are replacing discs that are damaged in that way simply because they feel people should really know better than to move something that is spinning a disc at high speeds.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to call their 800 number. If they say no then you can also try the game's developer/distributor. More than likely though you are out of luck and wont be able to repair it.

Cheers jams.
To be honest it doesn't look to deep so I may consider using a scratch remover (are there any good one's you'd suggest?).
I take your point about moving it while the disk is moving at high speed, lets just say I won't be doing it again.
While I'm here can I ask if on the whole everbodies 360's are pretty quiet all the time? When I boot up a game from scratch, mine seems to be abit noisey, but after a few seconds it settles down....is this normal?
Anyhow, cheers for now.

I've used the Disc Doctor scratch remover before and it did a decent job. I think most of the do it yourself models are the same, they just wet-sand the disc with a fine sandpaper wheel and you buff it afterwards. You can also try your local movie rental shop to see if they do repairs. Maybe even a video trade/swap shop if you have those over there. Around here it costs about $5 for a repair in the shops.
As for noise, mine sits about 10 feet from me on top of the TV and I can't hear it at all while playing. If I am at the dashboard I can hear the fan since there is no music/background noise, but it is no louder than my PC which is sitting less than a foot from me right now.

Dude, just tell them that the cat knocked the 360 over from vertical to horizontal when it was switched on!!
mine is quiet without a game in the drawer but when i put a game in there it sounds like a sodding plane taking off:laugh:
