I'm upgrading an old Dell Smartstep 100D and the stamp on the RAM says PC133. I figured it was the same stuff as PC2100 (DDR133), but as I looked through some online stores I found stuff named PC133. It was on microcenter.com and nearly costs twice as much as PC2100 from newegg.com. SO, is the cheaper PC2100 compatible?

OK, it's NOT the same stuff. PC133 is 168pin instead of 184pin. Has anyone ever upgraded a 100D, and what brand RAM was compatible? I see a lot of bad reviews about certain brands, but the people may not have known what they were doing.

The older PC66, PC100 and PC133 are 168-pin SDRAM for older systems. The newer PC1600, PC2100, PC2400, PC3200 etc. are 184-pin DDR RAM used on most current systems. If you're not sure what brands work good for your motherboard, use only low density modules.

You can find memory at much cheaper prices from www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) .

This is what Crucial guarantees will work :

It may cost a bit more, but they will refund if their recommended RAM is not compatible.
