I'm not sure if this question has been asked, but let me ask it.

What would you prefer?

If the original source dvd is say, Region 2 or Region 3.
When you encrypt it and shrink it all, you have the option of making it
Region Free or leaving it as Region 2 or Region 3.

Which would you prefer? Making it region free so it would play on all dvd players?
Or would you leave it as it is, not messing with the region setting?

Basically, it's just all a matter of prefferance. Which would you prefer?

This is actually quite a silly question (no offence) but obviously region free as you then know it will be compatible in all players regardless of its region. I dont think its a preference it really makes sense thats why most ripping/encoding programs chose region free by default.

I would make it region free so it'll play in all dvd players. Unless there are quality changes or something when you shrink and make it region free, then I'd keep the old region setting, otherwise I'd make it region free.

I know it is a silly question. Just that some collectors, would like it to be exact duplicate of the originals. So I was just curious what your opinions were.

Thanks.

It still is an exact duplicate of the original regardless of the region lock as dvd players dont tell you what region it is, It will only tell you if its incorrect. I know what your saying but removing the region lock makes no difference to the disc whatsoever appart from that it will play in any player.

The very act of shrinking and re-encoding is going to make it anything but an exact copy.

Roger, i think what he means is keeping it the way the source was, as for re-encoding wether DVD5 or DVD9 then my thoughts are if nothing is removed then it is an exact copy.
