hi guys

was having trouble burning at 2x on this silly ritek discs i got so thought i need a firmware change.

a friend recommended 1.20 2x for all. so i put it on, flashed the drive, lovely i thought.

but i went to burn off a move image and it went mega fast as if an 8x or even a 12x

after a while the buzzer started sounding which normally indicates that the disc needs replacing with a new blank one after it chucks it out

however, this buzzer went every 5 seconds with the disc still in. i couldnt get the disc out, so did a reboot and managed to get disc out while s6tarting up.

now it won start any burn. the fw on it is definitely 1.20 and the discs i was using are g04.

what can i do to get this drive going again please?

the discs i got are 4x but i only want to burn at 2x on the 104.

many thanks to anyone who can help this desperate chappy out

G

You may have hosed the drive according to this article. anyway version 1.2 is way old.

Wait, I just noticed you were the person I sent this link to the other day. The article specificly said an older firmware might damage the disc and the drive. So I have to ask why you put an older firmware version on knowing this could happen?

Try re-flashing with this http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/a04_131.zip

Ooops, sorry NaughtyLondonBoy, my bad. Someone else had a fairly similar problem with that same model recently. I would try Geobon's suggestion of flashing with a newer firmware revision. If you happened to glance at the article I linked to, it looks like the older firmware had an issue that could cause the problems with higher speed discs and could actually render the drive useless. Hopefuly this isn't your case.

hiya fellars, just to update. tried geobons link and thankfully the drive was reflashed ok back to its old original self.

burning a move image now and it seems to be burning lovely. i selected 2x but it will only write at 1x with recordnow max. i guess that will have to do as you gents suggest i shouldnt mess with this model of drive.

so back to old 1x burning for me, id use my a03 i got but i keep getting buffer underruns with that.

im going to buy some genuine riteks and hopefully shouldnt have burning problems with them!

thank you so much for your help guys.

Best regards
