Did you take a look at the thread that is just 2-3 threads down from this one? http://www.dvdrom-guide.com/forums/showthread.php?t=497 The general consensus is stick to what works. I definitely prefer Recordnow Max to Nero (I can't get any of Nero's software to work right for me) but that is just my personal preference. If you are having problems with Nero then definitely give Recordnow Max a shot. Just a word of warning though, some people have reported that Recordnow Max and Nero conflict with eachother, so you might want to backup Nero and remove it before putting RNM on there. ;)

Never used recordnow but nero's worked pretty good for me since i started using it around version 3 or so...
As far as i can see, most of the software does the same thing, nero just has all of the functionality that I need for what i use it for these days (mainly cdrw). I've burnt ps2 loadable and converted dreamcast games (gdi 2 nrg) on it and it worked good. DVD burning is for some1 else to answer tho

It works fine for DVDs as well. Just make sure you have an updated version as some versions of 5.5 don't support DVD Burning.

I use RecordNow MAX and Nero. RecordNow I use to make 1:1 copies of stuff that I backup. It's good because it uses the *.gi format and breaks the image into separate files(I don't know why). Thats great for a FAT32 partition since some images go above 4GB. What sucks is the support for the *.gi image, I can't seem to find a good program that will let me extract/build a *.gi image.
I only use Nero to burn CDR and DVD movies....
