I have a TSOP flashed xbox. I am not sure what version bios it is, it simply shows as "unknown" on my Evo-x dashboard. Can I even upgrade the bios with a TSOP or do I need a modchip to do this. I seem to be able to run everything fine as it is now, so why would I want to upgrade?

the reason its unknown- is cos your version of evox doesn't have the hash for that bios- that can be easily corrected if its a major issue for you- may be as simple as updating your version of evox- but its not a major issue
I think it is possible to flash the TSOP again with a new bios, but if you are happy with the way everything is set up then don't bother- if it ain't broke don't fix it as they say.
there's not much that you can do with the bios- just change the colour of the X logo, remove the flubber animation at the beginning and maybe eventually change the colour of the animation.
the reason i changed it was to move all my modded stuff onto my f drive (so have to make the bios look for my dash on the f: drive as opposed to c:) so my xbox looks like a normal xbox (for live purposes) don't even know if it really even matters at the moment- seeing as you are using a TSOP flashed xbox this bit is probably pointless anyway.
If i were you i wouldn't bother unless any of the points i made actually affects you. Plus something like a TSOP mod if flashed incorrectly is pretty terminal (i think). If you have a multibank modchip, and know what you are doing, you should always be able to recover from a bad flash fairly easily. I f however you have space to accomodate 1 bios (as with a cheap mod or no modchip exploit) then the ability to recover while not impossible is alot harder.

Be careful flashing your bios, you need to know what version xbox you have. v1.0 + v1.1 xbox have a bios of 1mb and all other versions(1.2,1.3,1.4) have a 256k bios. Use xbtool to resize the bios image to the appropiate size and good luck. If it ain't broke, don't fix it - unless your curious like me ;)
Raincoat .7 does most of the work for you. Resizing the bios file. And if you do screw up some how, you can always get a mod chip.
