Usenet downloading [Archive]

I have a newshosting account and I am about to upgrade to an unlimited package.
I was just wondering if the usenet account is totaly seperate from my ISP, or if I download too much then my ISP will be breathing down my neck.
I'm pretty sure they are seperate but just looking for conformation as I'm new to usenet.

Anything you download from anywhere goes through your ISP, so if they have a download cap, or usage policy, they will be breathing down your neck.

Check your ISP & ask what their newgroup cap is, if there is one. Mine does not have a cap.

You do know that newsgroup connections are often speed capped too, right? So, the way around that is to open multiple connections, with say, newbin pro.

I've got a 2mb line with talk talk on an unlimited account.
No speed issues the download max's on 8 connections through newshosting.
Anyone know what sort of GB limit before ISP's get stroppy, I'm not looking to tear the arse out of it but if I know I'll avoid getting noticed.

depends on the ISP, have a look at Talk Talk's policy on their website.

I've often wondered how much is Too much.

I am on Cable (Telewest) on a 10 Meg line.

In my first 3 Months I downloaded 720GB (yes Gigs!!)
I did have to invest in a new Hard Drive to keep it all. I now have 450Gb Hard Drive space and a pile of dvd's lol!!

Yes, I am almost blind and NO I do not have a conscience!! who cares?

No one has knocked at my door yet so I will keep on trucking!!!

I try and keep it a bit sensible

Im just worried newsgroups are gonna be the next thing they try throttling, as more and more people leave the torrents eventually

As for limits I always though newsgroup downloaing counted towards your main monthly limit, if you have one, I cant see any reason why it wouldnt (im with ntl)
