i think the media folder needs to be in the same folder as surreal's default.xbe and surreal refers to the d: drive as being the root directory (relative to the default.xbe- a: is the dvd-rom drive)
so move your media folder to wherever the default.xbe for surreal is and edit the media file path to d:\media\

yes the media folder is in same directory as surreal64, and in the media folder are the roms,

well if they're in the same folder as surreal why have you got it as e:\media\?- it should be d:\media\
I'm not at home to check the set up on my xbox- but i'm pretty sure media and rom folders are separate- if the roms folder was in the media folder then you should ref the roms as d:\media\roms\

yes the media folder is in same directory as surreal64, and in the media folder are the roms,
The roms don't go in the media folder. They go in the roms folder. :)

cyberdude can you elborate on your problem?
what dash are you using?, where is surreal saved and the setup (folders the way they are currently set up) - the fact your rom folder isn't referenced correctly shouldn't affect it loading up- you should just have no roms showing up once in there- the media folder on the other hand needs to be there- are all the ini files there (there should be 4 ini files, 4 xbe files one of which is default.xbe and the other three are named after the three emulators)
other info that may be useful is the bios you have....
there are also two (to my knowledge) releases of surreal- can't remember exactly but i think the first one was leaked- surreal64_V1.0.rar is the proper release

nimbles im useing slayers dash,
surreal64 is saved on the e: drive, (no space left on other drive)
its saved in a folder called "roms" the surreal contents are in the roms folder on the e: together with media folder where i put the roms in,
/E/ROMS ( surreal64 contents and media folder)
/E/ROMS/MEDIA/ ( where n64 roms are located)
hope this helps mate, if not i wil delete the contents and start from scratch if it makes it easyer.
im useing the Surreal64_V1.0 version,
i went into xbox explorer and opened default.xbe for surreal and that works ok as it takes u to the settings for it.
thanx

ok so you can launch it from boxplorer?
ok seems like something dodgy with evox then (i assume you mean you are running evox with slayer's skin)
could be an in game reset issue (goto to the settings in evox- and find every instance of in game reset and disable it- depending on what version of evox you have there could be up to 3 in game resets in the settings) once you're sure you got every in game reset scroll all the way to the bottom of the settings file and ht "save and exit" pressing "b" or just exit will result in none of the changes being saved.
if that doesn't work i would try another dash (e.g. avalaunch- there was someone on the old forum who couldn't launch certain games from evox- similar siymptoms to what you're describing, in the end he switched to another dash and they worked) or upgrade your version of evox- the one in theslayers 2.5 is not the latest one (v3935)
Ok i just checked it on mine v3935 of evox, with an evox m7 bios (ignore the bios for the moment) does boot surreal- so hopefully just updating evox should do the trick

Ok, you just have a few things in the wrong places. Just start all over is the easiest from this point
Put the surreal64 contents in E:\SURREAL\
Put the roms in E:\N64ROMS\
Then make sure the settings have
Rom Path=E:\N64ROMS\
And you should be fine

Remember to delete the surreal64 gamesave from the M$ dash after every failed attempt, as it copy's the sureal.ini to E:/UDATA/whatever gamesave extension. It will load the gamesave ini on startup, so if your still having problems it's because the faulty surreal.ini is being loaded.

http://dvdrom-guide.com/forums/images/smilies/idea.gif yes i completely forgot about that!
i'm still surprised that he can launch it through boxplorer- (if understood what he said right) but not evox in which case would suggest evox is the culprit
