I could really do with a hand here folks. I'm building a system with the following components.

Asrock 939S56 Mobo
Athlon Dual Core 64 3800+
512 Megs DDR 400 RAM (Tried various new sticks)
X800 Pci Ex 256 Meg ATI Radeon Vid Card

System builds beautifully. Service packs and all software go on.

When I install the Video Software I get a 'Zero Display Service Error' - now this occurs when I install the software that came with the card AND when I install the latest catalyst drivers (along with DotNet) from ATI's website.

Did a complete rebuild - same thing

Did a complete rebuild using a new XT550 - same error.

Starting to lose the will to live with this and suspect I'm maybe missing something dumb (or hoping so).

Any ideas please? (Maybe a PCI Express Bus Fault on the mobo?)

Thanks in advance.

Mike

It seems this is an ATI problem, but nothing on ATI's website.

Came across this on a websearch :

1. Get the latest Catalyst Driver from www.ati.com (http://www.ati.com/) (either Catalyst Control Center version or Control Panel version)
2. Grab Drivercleaner Pro from www.drivercleaner.net (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) then install it an run Internet-Update to get the latest cleaning files
3. Go to control panel, see if there is anything ATI, and uninstall them all one by one, answering "No" to questions about rebooting.
4. When all are uninstalled, reboot, and Tap F8 at reboot to get into safe mode.
5. When in safe mode, run DriverCleaner Pro and clean with multiple selection, including anything that begins with "ATI" except ATI IGP part.
6. Restart
7. Install latest official ATI drivers you downloaded in the first place.

Note, make sure you have all Windows Updates installed prior to doing it all.

Good luck

Thanks for the comprehensive answer Phil. Very much appreciated.

Nice try - but no cigar I'm afraid.

I've got more boards and cards coming in today and have spent so much time on this I'd be better off replacing both to see if that resolves the problem.

Thanks again.

Try an non ATI Card first, as google is full of reports of this, with ATI's.
