when u type in ya net browser file://localhost/c: it brings up all the files etc on that pc, i was wondering...
if my PDA connects to my PC via WIFI, is there a command/program for my PDA to get access to my PC's files? the file://localhost/c: command dont work, do i need to change localhost to the PC's IP or something?

localhost is exactly what it says - the local computer, so thats not going to work on another PC
So yes you would need to replace localhost with the PC name
Also a better way to do might be to map the C drive on the PDA, you can do this on most file explorers on there I think
That would be:
\\computername\c$
for the C drive

yeah got resco file explorer for PDA, mapped my C drive from PC to it and can browse it wirelessly now, had to give the computer name and a password....
....now im thinking what about other peoples wireless networks not passworded, would i just need theyre computer name to map theyre drive? seems a big secruity flaw???

A flaw would be if it was password protected but people could still gain access to it.
If they leave a drive shared out and un-protected they're just being negligent.
If someone is negligent then yes you could potentially access their harddrive. Either way that doesn't make it right. ...if you accidently forgot to lock your car or the front door to your home is it okay for anyone to just walk in and rob you?

although unless they had any shares they had created themselves, the default volume shares (C$ etc) will need a username and password
of course some people will have a blank admin password....

so unless someone had my computer name they couldnt map my drive? if it was un-passworded i mean... theres no way of them finding my computer name out is there?

Well if they got onto your network and managed to get an IP address, they could see any PC on that workgroup and any shares that arnt hidden
And no they wouldnt need the name, you can just browse the workgroup
So thats why you would want to stop people getting on your network in the first place :)
