urgent help needed

hi, a friends computer was playing up so i went and had a look and found that it had the blackworm virus. i put the latest mcafee virus scan on and it picked up a dodgy script being run by something called surfweb or something similar. mcafee wouldn't clean or remove the file cos it was being used, add/remove wouldn't get rid of the program either, so i went into msconfig and unticked it from start up.

after restarting the computer locks at the memory checking stage before even finding the harddrive.

can anyone help?

Try reseating the memory.

i'll try that, although it seems strange if thats the problem as it was starting ok till i set it to not start the surfweb program on startup
