Hi all - I'm thinking about registering a domain name and getting a site hosted (must be asp) - nothing flash, just for personal use.

Any recommendations on cheap and reliable places to register and host?

If your link is good, it's not a good advert, as I'm getting a "couldn't find server" error ..... and he did say "reliable" :)

It's loading now, but it's really, really slow.
I wouldn't go through a reseller but direct, just eliminate the middle man.(and the money) Would you be willing to go outside of the UK?

Agree with Elaine, theres sooo many people selling hosting but you may as well just get it direct from the people they resell for

If not for any other reason than if theres a problem you're more likely to be able to get help quicker as its their service, rather than having to deal with a middleman who has to go back and forth

Eh? nd-hosting.co.uk do their own hosting with their own servers, im no middleman, im just passing on who i goto for all my web hosting for all the websites i create.

FYI the servers were getting transffered over elsewhere, therefore it takes time for DNS propogation to kick in with all ISP's, hence the reason why the homepage was down.

I'm simply passing on good feedback from a company that I use and find reliable, and keep you uptodate with what is happening at their end. They are also on MSN most hours of the day as well for any support. ;)

I use http://www.ukhost4u.co.uk/

Have about 3 domains registered with them. Never had a problem even with their basic package :)

Thanks folks. As it is a small site and I will only be having invited traffic (low bandwidth) - I'm going to go with these guys (http://www.realvaluehosting.com/shared_hosting/). Their windows server for about 12 quid a year and I'm told they are reliable.

This probably answers your question E as they are a US provider :)

I'm with Nick. He's superb.

He's just upgraded the servers. Hence the page cannot be found. It's all up and running now though.

Fair enough .... wouldn't want to give the guy a bad name.
It was just bad timing ;)
