Hi. Is there any way to play music from my PC through my Hi Fi system? Is there a cable or something that I can use?

Thanks :)

Yep, get a shielded audio cable with stereo mini plug on 1 end and RCA (phono) plugs on the other end. Connect the stereo mini plug to the output jack on the soundcard and the RCA plugs to your stereo HiFi input jacks (Red to right channel, and White to left).

The cable can be purchased from your local audio/video store.

Your looking for a cable which for the life of me i can't remember what its called... but it has on one end a red and white cable... these are the ones that in the back of your hifi, one for left and one for right... if you have some half decent speakers they should use the same type of wire.... I only had a short one of these, so got myself a phono extension lead..

Remember to get a cable with mini stereo phono plug on 1 end and 2 phono (RCA) plugs on the other. It should be a shielded cable to minimize hum and distortion due to inteference. And do not go over 15ft in length.

This (http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?CartID=040407161010807&moduleno=35928&Products=2) is what you really need. Mini phono plug or 1/8" mini plug or 3.5mm plug are the same thing.

Van Nugent, true i think they are very similar, but was the first thing i looked at. I have the same as my link, works a treat, only 5 meters long as desktop is slightly further away..... Can't you get better cable for better sound cards, I know my friend at uni had some kind of special cable which gave him better quality because he had a better sound card... for the life of me can't remember the name but for a 10 meter cable was around £25 british pounds...... but suppose not applicable here...

If you check the price of the cable from the link I had above, it's costlier. You can buy extension cable if the distance is farther than the length of the cable.

Thanks for all your help. Think I'll go with Van Nugents suggestion ;)

Yep, m8! But remember not to go longer than 15ft to avoid loss of treble and adding hum/noise caused by capacitive impedance.

No problem. The PC is probably only about 6 feet, if that, from the system, so should be ok :)

OK, finally got round to getting it :p Any idea where it plugs into my PC and Hi-Fi?? I'm pretty useless at this type of thing

D@mn! Took 4 months to get a cable???

Now the 1/8" mini plug on the cable goes to the Line-Out jack or, if it doesn't have a line-Out jack, the Speakers out jack on the soundcard. Line-Out jacks have fixed voltage so we can safely say it's much better than Speakers out. Then on the other end of the cable, you have 2 phono plugs, Red and White. Connect the Red plug to the Right channel Aux/CD input jack or the like on the receiver/preamp and the White plug to the Left channel input. That's all you need to do m8.
