Hi peeps,

question for ya.

how do you go about setting up an ftp server. basicly my dads office is wanting to make it so they can get files from the server from pcs outside of the office. i knows theres the ftp option but the guy next door can get onto his works pc from home and get files and even collect his email from home by going onto a website and typing in his username and password.

how do you set this up? what software?

thanks

Um, you could use IIS to set it up if they're running Windows Server (or even on XP) at their end

thanks m8, been at it all day.

tried iis here and at the office but no luck.

iv tried an ftp server prog but its not working to outside connections, i think the router is blocking it but iv messed around with all settings within the router but nothing.

i have just connected up a speedtouch 530 and asked my dad to try and connect from the office, he managed to connect into the speedtouch using our ip.

i gave him the ip and the user and password on the ftp server prog (bulletproof ftp server) but it just connected to the speedtouch which has no password set. im now messing around in that to see if i can figure anything out

Have you set up port forwarding for FTP on the router that end?

just setting it up at home at the mo and my dads been trying it over there.

on the speedtouch iv set it up in napt or whatever to transfer the ip to my computer. the bulletproof ftp server software now picks my dad up but its not connecting for some reason.

cant figure out why it int working on my D-Link DSL-G624M router either
iv been into remote management, firewall, filters, ect but cant see to get it to work.

would go to the office and sort it out but would have thought id need someone else with an outside ip to test it?

thanks

maybe as simple as turning on Passive Mode (Transfer) as this used to bug me on BFTP in the past.

passive mode is set on it and my dad said it was set on the ftp prog at his office, or he thinks it was. it said connecting to blah blah blah and next to it (passive)
