I've just bought the components to assemble a computer. I've not done this before and would like a bit of help Please.
ASRock K7VT2 mobo
AMD Athlon 2200+
Hard drive & memory.
Looking in the mobo manual,I can't seem to see if I need to set any jumpers. There is a jumper to set the FSB, I have a choice between 100MHz and 133 MHz, which one should I choose?
Also the jumper on the new hard drive is set to CS. Do I need to change that to master or leave it as it is? I'll also have a Cd rom drive and a DVD burner in there.
I'm not in a great hurry with this, so other comments or helpful tips will be much appreciated.

Most mobo's now a days don't have jumpers on them. You can select all of that in your mobo. You should set your FSB to 133 (some one correct me if im wrong).
I'd recomend selected Slave Or Master. Set your hard drive as master on IDE channel #1. And you may choose were to put your CD-ROM and DVD Burner just make sure their jumpers agree.
BTW, I thought that you don't use periods?

Thanks, so set jumper to 133. I take it you meant the other settings are done in BIOS? I can copy the jumper settings from my old PC when I take burner out, it's just to get it up and running for now, then I'll swop over the parts I need to keep.
I use periods but, I don't have periods ;-)

New memory has arrived but it'll have to wait until Sunday now.

This is where it gets tricky for me. When I got to the DOS prompt and type fdisk, it then says to me; No fixed disks present. Anybody got any ideas?
I've also seen these messages, although I can't remember when. CDR101 not ready reading drive d. And abort, retry, fail.
Ring any bells with anyone?

Does your bios detect the hard drive? And if your planing to use XP then just use the built in format utility that you have access to when installing it.

I've managed it thanks, the jumper settings on the hard drive sticker bore no resemblance to the settings on their website. I set it as per WD's website, and it fired up no bother. I've got a lot to learn, have to learn how to make DVD's now.
