Ive got a NetGear DG834G v2 Wireless ADSL Router connected to my desktop pc for my internet connection, and have a laptop with a wireless network card built-in, I want to be able to use the net through my wireless card on my laptop can anyone tell me how the hell I set this up, as I have no idea lol. Am using Windows XP Pro on both machines if that makes a difference?
Thanks.

It should be pretty simple
First can you see the wireless network from your laptop?
You should be able to, if so click connect and it could be as simple as that
If you cant see it, wireless may not be turned on on the router

Hi Geordie
If you have wireless built in to the Laptop you should have the following in the control panel.
Go into Control Panel/ Setup Wireless Assistant or Wireless network Assistant and create a connection?
If you created a password when installing the router you maybe asked for it
during the setup.

just to clarify.... by this I take it you mean WEP key, and not the password into the router config - you would never be asked for that on connection setup.

Hi TierraDelFuego
Sorry, what I meant to say, during the setup of my linksys router I generated a wireless security key and I am sure this key had to be used when I setup the laptop. I have only done this once about 4 weeks ago so I presumed all routers should have them so I could be mistaking.

Yes, basically if you turn on WEP encryption, you use a key. The actual connection between the laptop and router will take place without the key, but it will only associate itself with the router (and hence be able to use the internet) if the passpharse key is entered correctly on the laptop.
With no WEP or WPA, you just connect, nothing needed.
