hopefully this makes sense

i am running my own athlon system below is all the hardware

amd athlon 2800+

running at 2.32 ghz (fsb set to 190) with 1gig ram (WHY DOES IT NOT RUN AT 2.8)

msi mother board

nvidia geforce4 mx 440 with agp8x

nec dvdrw

80gig
120gig

my problem is that i got a lend of a dell p4 2.2 computer with 256 ram and its running everything i do a lot faster.

for example when i decrypt a disk it takes 18 mins with my athlon and it takes about 8 with the dell p4 computer using the same drive.

does anyone have any ideas?

What programs are you running? Have you checked for spyware? We need as many details as possible to narrow it down.

First, the XP2800 does not run at 2.8GHz, its a speed rating, so to start with you should set the FSB back to 166 to narrow down the problem, a faster unusual FSB can have side affect other PCI parts within the PC.

The next I would check is the chipset drivers, then follow by the HDD/CD DMA to make sure they are turned on, when the DMA is off, it can slow the PC down so much it makes you feel like you are running a P2.

I just upped the fsb from 166 to see if that would sort the problem so i have now put it back.

fresh install m8 so its not a program or spyware issue...
