Ok, it's bound to happen so I thought I'd do a little poll here to see what you lot think is the best of the rest. I know it'll get asked down the road so here's a sticky poll for those new here that are looking into options for their consoles.

Enjoy.

Also, I realise some chip's are solderless while others aren't. This is more of a poll to find out what you all have done.

I voted twice, once for the best chip, and one for the best ladies. :)

well xecuter pro (2.3) is what i have now and i had cheap mod before both of which do the job fine- only advantage of the x2 pro is it has an external adapter and multiple bios banks which is handy for recovering from a boobed flash.

IMHO all the new gen chips are going over the top, there's only so many bios's you can have- some of the x3 stuff sounds good (like an embeded xbtool type app so you can change the bios colour etc) but i'm just wondering whther they're just give noob's more rope to hang themselves with :D

My cheapmod was working perfectly fine till i thought i'd be a smart arse and flash it without checking everything first.

Solderless would be an advantage too but i watched my friend fit the the x23 pro with pog pins and i got to say it doesn't look that hard

I have none of the above, I have the evox 2.1 from precisionmods. I have to say it hasnt failed me yet. Had that for like 2 years. But chalk another one up for the virgin women.

I Love my TSOPs.... so that's where my vote went. It's not really a chip though.

@pepsik, I know but I tossed it in there because I know there are folks out that that like to go that route.

i originally had an x2.0 pro but after a drunken rampage with a soldering iron which resulted in alot of destroyed traces (lesson learnt lol)
i brought myself a new crystal xbox and an xenium chip and its the muts
you can change led colour on the chip depending on which bios you have loaded.
impossible to fubbar you box with a bad flash.

For me it's a tie between the Xecutor and the Xenium. Xecutor for soldering, Xenium for non-solder. Xecutor needs to take it's cues from team xodus and start producing decent no-solder options. The no-solder options on the Xecutor are really crappy (and so is that Aladdin chip up there  ). Sorry but after trying to help out so many noobs who bought the Aladdin and then came crying to me after it wouldn't work, I have a passionate hatred for that thing. There is no such thing as a good tutorial for installing it.

A favourite of mine at the moment is the Duo-X (1mb, power on using eject to disable).

IMHO people shouldnt be opening there xbox up in the first place if they cant handle a blimmin soldering iron. I think a soldered in chip will outlive a no solder chip always if done propley, i mean i cant see sony, pioneer etc ever thinking...hey for better reliability lets tie these chips down :)

My solderless Matrix chip is ancient but still works flawlessly. My xbox has been in the wars and knocked about yet still that damn thing hasn't budged!

My brother borrows my xbox, I take it round a mates house and stuff so obviously a solderless option works fine when installed properly.

Also updating the bios is well easy 'cause it does it from disc!

IMHO people shouldnt be opening there xbox up in the first place if they cant handle a blimmin soldering ironSurely, it doesn't matter how a chip is installed as long as it works! BTW, quite a few home electrical items have additional circuit boards just bolted into place. My digital satellite receiver has the mpeg decoder screwed into place for example. This allows the basic box manufacture to be easily updated and also use the same basic box for a different market or purpose.

i mean i cant see sony, pioneer etc ever thinking...hey for better reliability lets tie these chips downI presume all your PC cards are soldered into place...what...they're not! I'm shocked...you mean you actually have them in slots where all that holds them in position is friction and a screw?

Hmmm, sounds familiar!

LOL my god your right, I take it back. My main point was theres alot of screwed up xbox's around . But I do stand corrected my P.C boards are just screwed in. I blame beer for my post, isnt there some sort of lamer bin maybe a mod can move my post too. :)

I'm glad you took the post in jest as it was intended. It could be interpreted as me 'having a go' (I wasn't!!!!!)

You are of course right in saying there are a lot of messed up xboxes out there though and that a soldered option is the preferred option but a solderless option can work just as well if people just take their time over it!

Also, if the solderless option didn't work then these chip producers wouldn't be falling over themselves releasing solderless versions.

Have a  on me m8!

Well for me it's gotta be TSOP re-flash everytime :)

...Can't see the point in buying and fitting another chip on the mobo when the mobo has a perfectly good chip, just sitting there, screaming out to be re-programmed into something useful!!!

Jesterrace

True but the advantage to having a chip is that it is much easier to fix, should the flash go wrong. ;)

Flash go wrong?????

...U shouldn't even be touching a Torx driver, let alone fitting a chip if u anticipate getting a flash go wrong, lol

Ack, I was almost ready to ship my xbox out to get the aladdin put in. Is it only bad for the installer, or is the chip crap?

Having trouble finding someone to mod my xbox.

i seem to remember a certain evox dashboard version screwing up cheapmods because of the way it indiscriminately tried to resize bios itself before flashing.

Hello All,

Now that there is a softmod that has the full functionality of a mod chip, including Live play, I think that that is the best mod. No need to open the XboX at all.

Hello All,

Now that there is a softmod that has the full functionality of a mod chip, including Live play, I think that that is the best mod. No need to open the XboX at all.

The exploit doesnt allow you to play live but it is quickly uninstalled so you can play live and can be quickly reinstalled to play backups

Also if you want to upgrade your hd you have to hook your xbox HD up to a pc

I think that if you want to play backups, use xboxlive, and dont want a larger hd it is definitely the way to go

My personal pref for doing mods is the bios flash since it behaves exactly like a modchip and you can upgrade hd using slayers just like a chip I dont mind soldering 2 wires takes me less than 2 mins and its free! everyone i do it for doesnt care about paying $70 a year for xboxlive and there are 3-4 other free online services that can be used instead

(although I do have a xecuter 2.3b lite chip and it rocks! but i wouldnt say its the best or worst but works well for me) :)

just to add to your comment, you dont have do the above if you have a friend who has a chipped xbox, with your soft mod xbox and a chipped xbox all you need to do is ftp from the xboxs to your pc and then ftp back into the xboxs again and you got yourself a 300gig hard drive in your unmodded softmod xbox, just by using a combination of 1 softmod xbox, 1 chipped xbox and a app for your xbox called configmagic final, and knowing how to ftp from you pc to xbox, you dont have to exactly put your xbox hard drive in your pc. i use my method to get huge hds to work on soft modded xboxs, but you must have a spare chipped xbox or a friends chipped box to do it.

the duox2 is not bad. it's cheap but it's reliable and gets the job done.

xecuters are really good also

as far as upgrading HD, no you don't have to use a pc.
when i do it, i just take the new HD and put it in a modded xbox with an evox boot disc (which I burned myself) or use a slayer's disc. You use the disc to format the HD and transfer the necessary files from the dvd disc to the HD.

as far as transferring files between 2 xboxes, just use avalaunch. it has an xbox-xbox ability. i think the new unleashX can do that also. Just be sure to have static IPs to both xboxes

anychip is the best as long as it works, and it does what you need it to do.

but i favour xecuter chips, and duo-x 2s, cheap and do the job :D
