I converted a film in TMPGEnc to DVD. The picture is fine, however there is no sound. What codec do I need to play/convert into MPEG-2 format?

Thanks.

What was the original file format you converted to DVD?

Probably because your source has vbr mp3 audio. I would suggest using AC3 when converting. You would I guess need the TMPGEnc AC3 plugin or to do it seperatly.

celtic_druid, I think you're right on this one. I can convert and play all other files fine.

The file in question is an XVID with AC3 Audio. I can play this file fine in Windows Media Player. When I convert in TMPGEnc, that's when I lose the sound.

As you say, I need the AC3 Audio pluging for TMGEnc, I did a search on Google and found the PEGASYS Inc TMPGEnc audio plugin - it does not appear to have done anyting, can you oint me in the right direction?

Thanks

AC3? Generally if you don't have an ACM AC3 decoder then TMPGEnc will simply not load the AVI as an audio source. No audio source = no audio. This is why I suggested vbr mp3 audio. TMPGEnc will accept it as a source and then not convert.

You don't want any plugins as I would suggest that you keep the audio as is. I mean no point in re-encoding a perfectly good ac3 track.

Demux the AC3 with VirtualDubMod, throw it through BeSplit and then re-use it.

Yeah, I've been through a few files to see what works and what doesnt - I can convert vbr mp3 audion in TMPGEnc fine. Ceratin now its's files with AC3 audio. I do have an AC3 decoder installed (before this the file played the sound really fast before crashing). I recently got a new PC, which is what I'm using now. I used to be able to load and convert AC3 audio in TMPGEnce on my old PC (Found out through checking previously converted files). I must have got it to work somehow? I know it's not the best quality wise, but I liked the ease of use. How did I get it working?

AC3 playback = dshow decoder. TMPGEnc conversion = ACM decoder.

Like I said you don't want to convert the audio. Well you shouldn't anyway.
