I am concerned about the security of the laptop. Can anyone suggest any other software i should get hold of other than what i have already got (below) or should that be ok? Cheers for now :)

Running winxp and currently have installed:

Zone Alarm security suite.
AVG Free.
Windows firewall has been disabled as i had to open some ports through a router.

You should be OK with that yeh, quite safe
Best to try and do Windows Updates as soon as you connect though

I would add SpywareBlaster (freeware) also ... this acts as a preventative measure.

You might like to consider Spybot S & D and Adaware SE (both freeware) ...and run these every week or so, to keep the Laptop clean.

I've had this set up for a good few years now and together with good old common sense, I've managed to stay clean.

Another option is my ISP has it's own firewall. Works great. I also use Avast, which is free.

I suggest you also look at AutoPatcher (www.autopatcher.com (http://www.autopatcher.com))
its a pack of all critical/recommended updates for XP. Latest out is Dec'05 although Jan'06 will be due shortly... its updated on a monthly basis..... and keeps you uptodate with xp at least.

:)

PS Another alternative for a Free AV is Antivir - ftp://ftp.volftp.tiscali.it/pub/pc/windows/win98/avirus/avwinsfx.exe

Netscape seems pretty solid as far as people trying to hack it. But IE seems to always have hackers exploiting some security measure in it.
