Wondering if any1 can shed any light on this!!!Went round to help a m with his pc as he said was slowing up terribly and that was always getting the interet dial up box pop up every min or so saying a cerain prog reqd it to connect to the net...anyways i loaded avg and download the updates and ran it and it pulled in 994 virus and said it had cleared them ,,,he rings me about an hour ago and says hes just used the pc for the first time since we deleted the viruses and ran avg again and this time its pulled in 1053...So obviously this is still spreading?????
Anybody got any ideas on this and how to go about it?????He didnt have any previous AV software on his pc,,would loading AVG while a virus is on there make the software u/s????
P.S his system is running Win 98se
Any help or advice greatly appreciatted
Cheers

You should have ran the virus scan in safe mode, not that it would have sorted this though. He probably has a ton of spyware running also. At this point, with over 1000 viruses, the best thing to do would be to reformat. Then have him install some anti-virus software, spyware prevention software, and a software firewall so that this doesn't happen again.

Yeh have told him to back up wot he can and wat he needs as reformatting is probably the only way of sorting.
