View Full Version : Well this is what the 'old cdrg webby' has to say

My mail box is just full of this flaming doo-doo so here's what someone claiming to be the CDRG webby is sending me

from "Anonymous" <BigappleRemailer@Optonline.Net>

We know what you are doing. We know that you are just trying to
set up your own fourms. You are spreading FUD big time. You need
to act your age not your shoe size. Instead of having a knee
jerk reaction why not act like an adult. Give the webmaster a
chance to get things done. Oh but no you can't do that. You have
to jump the gun and try and spread fear of the fourms going
away. All that ranting and that date has come and gone and yet
the gourms are still here. I guess your paranoid predictions
didn't come to pass. I bet you that they are here to stay. I bet
you that they will be here next year and the year after that and
so on.

Oh yes and by the way. Just something that you should keep in
mind. http://www.cdrom-guide.com is HIS FOURM he can do whatever
the hell he wants. He owns it. He pays the bills. It's HIS not
yours. If he wants to sell it. turn it into a porn site or even
make it go away there is not a damn thing YOU or any of the mods
can do about it.

Good for a laugh.
BTW Charles did try to set up a porn site but he got sued by Playboy and backed down.

So here's the real story:
The domain name www.cdrom-guide.com was close to expiring and Charles had not responded to any contacts from any of the Mods regarding his intentions. All we could do is assume he wasn't going to renew and the site would close. Charles has ignored the Moderators and members of cdrg for a very long time and so the Mods decided something had to be done to save your community.
When we started posting about opening up here the man panicked and paid for the domain name, then set about deleting threads and censoring the urls we posted.

That's definitely not the cdrg webby. I guess that whoever it was couldn't be bothered to use a spell checker.

Reminds me of James Cagney's famous last words in the movie White Heat:-

Top of the World Ma! Top of the World!
And then............ http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/0/mine.gif

That means it must be from a friend of his? man I find it hard to believe he has any friends, especially if he treats people as poorly as the Mods of 'HIS' forum

Elaine. In the anonymous quote posted by Darkman, the person was claiming to be the webby should have siad "The forum is MINE and I can do what ever I like, I pay the bills, it is MINE not yours". Instead of
Quote: is HIS FOURM he can do whatever the hell he wants. He owns it. HE pays the bills. It's HIS not yours.
Perhaps a 'check up' would be more beneficial than 'spell check'

Darkman did you send him back an email to tell him what he could do with his forum? http://66.197.142.137/forums/images/smilies/biggthumpup.gif

Probably lazyness on my side, but is EVERYONE from CDRG invited here or are the less desirable elements excluded, if you see what I mean. Yes, it probably tells me over there somewhere - or over here even. Oh, bugger it - looks nice anyway and I should have sobered up before asking. Good luck anyway and I hope the inter-forum ties remain strong.

Don't worry, I'll edit and tidy it up tomorrow when I'm thinking straight. :insane:

While not taking sides, the owner of CDRG had almost 2 weeks to respond to what will happen to the domain name, as if not renewed by 7th March, it would simply not accessible.

Elaine first raised the issue, it only take someone to reply and say yes the domain name will be renew at blah blah date, at least the mods will know what to expect, but days pass and not an answer.

After the deadline on the 7th, and after a few mods slaved for a week to setup a new board so we dont all sink together, I checked and then find he had renewed the domain name but still not a word, if he had the intention to do so, and had informed the mods, all this crap wouldnt have to come this far.

Having said that, CDRG where sailing without a captain, so renewed or not, it will sink sooner or later, the owner or webmaster has no one to blame except himself, I am not into politics nor profits, to me, helping members is what I enjoy doing as I also gain knowledge at the same time, may be its better that we have our own board away from the CDRG shadow.

Message to whoever wrote that email :
Yes he/you can do whatever he/you like with it, in fact, I am sure many mods and members here can tell you what they would like you to do with it , shut the xxxx up, if you knew the truth and you are an honest person, you wouldnt be typing this crap, if you are not, then please wrap your tail between your legs and crawl back to you owner..good doggy.

Who cares what is happening over there. A good core of members have already joined here which shows that this place will be well supported - and a forum is only as good as its members!

The old webbie can moan all he likes but the bottom line is if the "top people" had been more supportive they wouldn't have this problem.

Well there is one word in that mail that highlights something for me. And it is obviously someone we know pretty well. Going to have to do some investigating methinks

Yeah. I think that this new board is going to be the same, if not better than the old board. Many people want a new look, same feel, and just something better. This board can be it. The moderators are great and people now have some reliable service and answers coming in here. I know now that I will be visiting this board more than I ever did with CDROM-Guide, so that is a good thing. Another thing, that webmaster is just someone who thinks that if he owns the domain for $6.00 a year, then he can control what his members are doing. Well, he has no contact with them whatsoever so I think that its best that we did something about it. And we did. The moderators created a more reliable community based on their own. Also, the thing about spammin this board, we are not really doing it. The site is affiliated with eachother, so any connection made within it can be made and I don't see nothing wrong with it unless the webmaster actually speaks up and not his friend.

I would of loved to of stayed at cdrg, but I feel it was made impossible because of the uncertainty of the whole situation, i hope that hoss and the other mods will listen to us all or this whole exercise will be a waste of time

well ive worked with hoss and jams for well over a year now and u couldnt ask for a better webby and admin,
they are the sort of guys that listen to what the members have to say, you wont have to wait an eternity for questions to be answerd, i should know cos i bombard them with questions all the time :)
we have made many changes over on BST and all the questions were put forward to us from traders suggesting changes,
this forum and BST is run by the members for the members, not like cdrom-guide.

The owner of CDRG could have shown some more respect and common decency to inform those that work tirelessly for FREE. Asking to have some insight as to how and when things are going to be done, updated and paid for is just ridiculous. I think the biggest statement has already been made as to the number of people who have already defected.

Virgin San

I've never realised before. The word defected is just one letter away from the word defecated, which is exactly what everyone has done all over the old CDRG.

Dave we have nothing to hide here, and will try our very best to keep the members notified of any changes. Unfortunately we'll all really busy right now trying to get everything situated. However I think that you personally can vouch for our communication skills. :D

While I may not have had many posts on the old cdrg, I learned a lot from the mods and the members.

The new DVDROM-Guide looks great and with many if not most of the members switching over, it can only get better, help and information wise.

A quick look at cdrg, and it appears "the idiots run the asylum" !

It really is sad what's happened over there, and to think it all could have been avoided if the owner would have simply shown a spark of interest in running it with a little communication to those that were actually investing their own free time by Moderating it.

I don't like seeing what's happened over there but it's an unfortunate situation that happens with message board communities (I can think of another recent board where this happened).

It's all in the past now for me and I'm already looking forward to a new start with this board and am very pleased to see so many faces here. Do I hear violins?
