right, on my pc i have 1 hard drive. it is 80gig. it had 9gig free space. i've just installed an external hard drive and moved 57gig from my main drive onto that, so i should have 60+gig free on my main hard drive. thing is its saying i've only got 50gig. i've defragged and restarted pc but still down about 13gig. any ideas plz. recycle bin is empty too. thanks

The way drive space is measured by the manufacturer is different then how the OS calculates it so don't expect the size to exactly match up. (the difference is because one uses decimal while the other is binary where 1k=1000 or 1k=1024)
Also, are you running Windows XP or ME? If so, by default, System Restore will allocate ~12% of the drive for Restore points. You can adjust the amount of space being used or turn it off completely. (I recommended you leave it on because sooner or later something always screws up and you'll want to use it)

You are best approachiing this from the other direction ... i.e. how much is on your Hard Drive and deducting this from the total, which for an 80gb drive is approx. 74.51 GB.
You will only have 60gb free if your total used space is approx. 14.51gb.
