Currently I have mine and my sisters computers connected with a crossover cable to share internet, with my PC having the 56k modem

However we are having new carpet laid in the hall so no-one wants wires under it so wanna get some wireless stuff.

her PC is easy...just gonna buy a wireless PCI card, but mines more difficult.
What i really want is a wirelss broadband router and switch like this

or this

the reason is that we have a cable internet connection i wanna share but NOT YET...jus wanna plan for the future
For now i still need to share the 56k modem, so could this still be done with one of the above routers using just the switch/hub part of it?
Ie connect my PC to it with ethernet cable as the server and then have my sisters PC connect wireless to get on the net

I don't believe that your idea will work with a dial up connection. As wireless routers will only continue to drop in price, I'd recommend waiting to purchase one until you're ready to use your cable connection.

ok thanks elaine

For now then what should I purchase?

Would 2 wireless cards work as a crossover cable does? Or would i need a wireless access point between these?

Although I would prefer a solution where my computer is connected with cable to te hub, and one that has a few spare ports for ppl that come round...but still need a wireless connection to my sisters PC

Could i get a normal ethernet switch/hub and plug an access point into that?

Im good with normal networking but pretty confused when it comes to wireless
Tried to read that tutorial posted in the sticky but it wouldnt work for me :(

I'm not totally positive however I believe that the Netgear you linked to above would allow both a wired and wireless connection and the same time. If not, your looking at even more devices and it'll get rather complicated. Perhaps someone else could better help you.

if your looking to setup a wireless network like that you will want something link a wrv54g linksys router, and the cards to go with it? this will do everthing you want and support all the new newtworks which are comeing out (but not the new 5ghz network)

use my this page to look at the shop for it http://www.apbj99.dsl.pipex.com/p/index.html.htm
