Hi All,

does anyone know if this card is suitable for connecting a Pioneer DVD writer

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=59907

looking to connect a couple of dvd writers to it.

cheers

In a word no. Not a good idea to put CD or DVD rewriters on an IDE card generally. I mean what you could do is swap so either your HD's or DVD-ROM drive are on here and put the DVDRW drives on regular IDE channels so that does not mean it can't be done.

And that card would be fine for this, I have my DVD-ROM reader on a similar card on my main video editing system and it works just fine.

o.k m8, i understand what you are saying,
so would this setup be better?

motherboard IDE 1 Master - Boot HD
motherboard IDE 1 Slave - Liteon DVD-ROM

motherboard IDE 2 Master - Pioneer A05 DVD Writer
motherboard IDE 2 Slave - Pioneer 105 DVD Writer

IDE Card IDE 1 Master - HD with images
IDE Card IDE 2 Master - HD with images

would this set-up let me copy the same image to both DVD Writers?

cheers

Yes it should as long as your system has the juice to cope with running 2 DVDRW drives, much better to copy from .iso than disc of course.

just got this off another forum...

'Primary IDE M-harddrive OS
Primary IDE S-Burner

Secondary IDE M-Burner
Secondary IDE S-DVD Rom

IDE Card 1 M Hard Drive
IDE Card 1 S Hard Drive '

this set-up has the writers on different channels
i suppose this would be a better way of doing it, the original poster says he can burn different images at the same time e.g imageX to DVDR1 and imageY to DVDR2 at the same time.

what do you rekon?
will order the ide card and a 550W power supply soon

thanks for your help...

cheers

To be fair though I've had Pioneer Writers running off cheapo Longshine IDE 100 Raid cars since the A03. Used every single revision including A07 without a hitch.... in fact on my main computer thats the ONLY place I can run em from as on a MOBO IDE slot they run slow as hell. I have several base units running the longshine cards with various mobo's and they all work well. Horses for courses I suppose

Most IDE Controller cards do not support ATAPI devices. There are some that do but even so, the attached device is often locked in the PIO mode thus degrading the performance. Be careful which card you choose, make sure it specifies support for ATAPI devices and you should be fine.
