hello

my flatmate was given a 32inch toshiba crt which was his relatives. apparently it worked fine before it was driven down to us but when we set it up all the black colours were actually red... like loading telewest or xbox the black loading screens would have a red tinge but the actual colours were fine...

but now when we turn it on its completely red, not just the black bits.... can post pics if needed

anyone got any ideas of what it may be?

Strange that it would be completely red, as usually what happens when a set is moved and this sort of fault surfaces is that a dry/cold solder joint gets knocked out of place and so you lose one of the three beams, but all red suggests that two beams are down. Are you sure it isn't just lacking in green (so the image will be a murky purple colour)? The green gun is usually the one that goes first in a tube.

how can we go about fixing that?

it was kinda a little bit red a couple of days ago but now everything has a red tinge to it... whereas before it was kinda just the black screens...

not sure about lacking green

Best to take it to a repair shop. Hopefully should be easy to fix but be prepared to pay the standard £40 charge they always ask for.

Is it just when you plug an Xbox in, or does it do the same thing on the tuner as well? (Even if you don't have an aerial you can see this easily enough, the static will either be white/grey or all red).
