making a cd with loads of pics on for my g/f dad's bday

as above would like these play like a slide show, with music in the back ground if possible.

but want it to load up straight away, just by putting it in the dvd player and having an option to "play" so we can all sit round and watch it.

any help much appreciated and any free s/w especially!

Proshow gold is probably one of the best slide show programs but for freeware have a look at Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com) I don't use it myself but think it will do what you want (could be wrong though ;) ).

I second Ken's suggestion for Proshow Gold. It's a fantastic program for creating slideshows. http://www.photodex.com/products/proshow/

PicturesToExe is also a really nice program. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Proshow Gold but it's also a lot cheaper. http://www.wnsoft.com/

Ifanview is also good if you don't have the money but it will only do the pictures, no music.

And unless one does not have a DVD burner, creating a DVD picture show instead of a CD would give much better result. :)

So I am sure one will make excellent pic DVDs with ProShow Gold. I like it, too! :)
