If you've already used a router or switch in your home networking setup, you only need to enable file sharing on both systems. If not, a simple crossover cable such as This One (http://www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6.cgi?action=Showitem&id=ID1053071&partno=02219&search=CROSSOVER&rsite=goto.usb&rcode=) will do the job nicely. Just connect it b/w the LAN ports of the 2 systems then enable file sharing on both to transfer files from/to each one of them. A crossover is actually a regular ethernet RJ45 cable with the send and receive wires crossed to use for connection b/w 2 PCs without a hub/switch.

.... or, if you dont have an NIC Card in each PC, or you dont fancy setting up a Network/File Sharing, you could use a USB File Transfer Cable, as listed here :

http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ss_usb_file_transfer.html

A small piece of software is installed on each PC and it's plug & play

I've used the Trust Cable in the past and it worked well.

or if you just have the hard drive, theres various USB to IDE converters you can buy

a m8 got one off ebay for about £6 and it works a treat

I'll go with chimpuk's suggestion. You need to have something like this (http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/Computer-external/p/2000000003844/3000000149681/sm/1001430592.htm).

I'd thought of an external USB case but you'd need to remove the drive from the PC to put it in the ext. case so I was not so sure you'd like to do it that way, especially if you only need to transfer files once and the ext case would cost about $30 US. An add-on Gigabit PCI card (http://www.3gplaza.com/estore/control/Computer3G/productdetails?id=39953&srccode=PW) is only ~ $10 US, BTW.

i was actually suggesting something more like this:

Or get your work done with ext. USB case and then post/ sell it on EBay. ;)

How many files and how large are they? If you don't have too much data, a USB thumb drive might do the trick and would certainly be the cheapest and easiest way.
