Are all PS2 Slim Lasers the same?
Like Can I take one out of aV14-V13-V12, in put it in another one no problem?
Also, how would I be able to tell one apart without opening it up?

one thing you have to be careful of is that the wide lens SPU-3170 lasers won't go in a case from the smaller PVR-802 laser, unless you swap the case lids too

I have a new chipped PS2 slim. I played it for about 4 hours then the lens went out. Bought new one in replace of the burnt one. After the new lens was installed it would not read backup disc anymore. Whenever I insert a backup disc, the unit shuts off. It won't read DVD either. It keeps showing a message through the browser menu saying: Disc could not be read. Not only that in the begining of the screen after PS2's powered up, the colorful orbs floating around just froze. Browser and System Configuration are still accessible though. Just remember that Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory chip that stores the driver for the laser unit, different lasers have to have different drivers and these drivers have to be flashed prior to the laser swap.

Should work for most they can tell you exactly what you need to know

Did you apply the "summone" or "albert" laserfix?
You could have burned out your LA chip or coils too
Putting in a new laser in this instance would not help you any in this situation also

They say its best to apply both if possible (esp on version 12 ps2s)
Dont have much experience with version 13 and 14's only done a few of those some version 12s seem to work fine without a laser fix after being chipped but I know a lot of people say their slim ps2s that have died without one
You might have blown you la chip or coils even with the albert fix
