have just reformatted my hd due to numerous problems, and reinstalled win xp pro ,though now i cant install any games ,every disc i put in and try to install ,fails , its the same message everytime ,though the disc maybe at 25 per cent or 75 per cent , it will say "The file .....................cannot be copied ,the archive is either corupted or there is a read error ......abort, retry, ignore " taht is as far as it ever gets , then when u choose ignore it comes up with " error 1335 - followed by file no. (usually data cab ) "then "error 2350 internal error " "there may have been a network error ,an error reasding from the cdrom or the file may be corrupt "
i know there is nothing wrong with the discs cos i have installed them on other computers , i have reformatted and reinstalled xp 4 times but have same problem everytime , the only way i got 1 game on was (farcry )
was to format then install win 98 , install game then upgrade to xp , then i could run it ,it also says after the errro message sometimes " consult msi.chm help for further advice " ???? does anyone ahve any ideas cos im pulling my f ******g hair out !!!!!!!!!!!
cheers T.I.A.

First of all....Installing a game on Win98 and then upgrading to XP, in my own personal experience, causes more problems than fixes them.
Run Disk Doctor and see if there are any bad sectors on your HD. It could be that there are a lot of bad sectors that can't be written to (which means you need a new HD).
Seems like your install went wrong. Format it completly. Install XP, install all the drivers then try again.

The only time I have ever gotten a message like abort retry ignore was on a HDD with bad sectors. It looks like your disk is on the way out especially since you state that you had numerous problems before formatting.
Use your manufactor's HD maintance utility program to check the HD then.

The error message seems to be associated with Windows not being able to read the contents of the CD. A search revealed numerous instances of that error message and all solutions recommend cleaning the CD and/or copying the files to the hard drive and installing from there. But you are having a problem with more than one CD which means it's more than likely to be system related. I would try to install an ASPI layer to improve IDE communications so Windows can read the CDs better.

The Windows XP and Windows 2000 versions are the same. You can check for the installation of an ASPI Layer using Nero InfoTool, included with Nero. Windows XP does not have native ASPI drivers.
