Hi.
My PC use to autoplay cds ad dvds but it does not do it anymore.
There is no autoplay function anymore.
Can someone tell me how to activate it again (XP PRO)?
Method 1
Start > Run > Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdrom
Set autorun to 1.
Method 2
Open My Computer
Right Click on each CDROM and choose Properties
Click on the Auto Play tab
In the drop down box you can choose the Action for each choice shown in the drop down box
Method 3
Go to Start->Run->gpedit.msc
Computer Config -> Administrative Template -> System
Double click Turn on Autoplay
Enable it.

Hi ps2wiz
thanks for your reply
i checked the registry value which was already on 1
Also in gpedit.msc the autoplay is already turned on.
With regards to properties I have set the autoplay to prompt me each time to choose an action but unfortunately it doesn't do it.
Very weird!!!

Just a thought ..... some applications disable autoplay temporarily, whilst they are running (eg. Nero).
Have a look and see what is running in the background and try closing anything that isn't vital.

Does MCAFEE security suite disable autoplay?

Not sure about McAfee, it's possible. Try shutting it down and see.
Also when you checked the settings in gpedit.msc, did you read the wording carefully ? ... i.e. to enable it ..... the "Turn Off Autoplay" needs to be set to Disabled, to turn it on.
Sometimes this wording can be a bit confusing.
