I was very excited to learn today that with the relatively simple addition of a bluetooth gps receiver and the right software you can turn your mobile phone into a satnav device.

Can you do the same thing with a laptop (assuming it has bluetooth)? Are there similar programs as there are now for mobiles and pda's - e.g. tomtom?

and if so, which version should i go for?

There are several GPS devices for laptops and you don't need bluetooth to use them (USB ports work too). TravelRoute, CoPilot, Streets and Trips....what you go for depends on how much you're willing to spend and the features you want. CoPilot is what I have, mainly because I liked the voice navigation.

Do a internet search for "Laptop GPS navigation."

As you are in the UK .... check out ebay uk and look for GPS USB Receivers
also for GPS Software

I managed to get the lot for about £36 a few months back.
I got a copy of PrymeNav for about £8 (I think) and the receiver for £28.

Works well, but my Lappy is a 15" widescreen, so it's a big big on the front seat ;)
