Ok, to be honest I have no knowledge whatsoever of networking. So please explain what I need to do like you're trying to teach a chimp quantum physics. :saywhat:

I currently have an ADSL connection 768 down 128 up. I only need to network two computers. I have a Linksys 4 port router which I'm using to share the internet connection. I have two computers with the following specs.

Computer 1
- AMD 2500+xp processor
- 256meg Asus 9800xt video card
- 1gig pc 3200 memory
- LG 52x24x52x CDRW drive
- NEC 1100 DVD-RW drive
- 160gig 7200rpm Seagate HD
- Running Windows XP SP1

Computer 2
- 700mHz Celeron processor
- 16meg Rage128 video card
- 256meg memory
- LG 52x32x52x CDRW drive
- 20gig 7200rpm Western Digital HD
- Running Windows 98SE

My question is simple. How do I network these two computers together? I done several Google searches and the tutorials make it look so easy but yet I can't get it to work.

Ok, its fairly simple.
1. Install a NIC card in both PC's.
2. Hook ADSL into the router.
3. Connect both PC's to the router.
4. *OPTIONAL* You can do this l8er, but try it now. If it dont work, do it as the last step. Open IE on eather comp, and type in the routers addy (You hafta look in the manual, it should be like 192.168.0.1 or something. Then config it for DHCP, or ppoe or w/e you use.
5. On the XP comp, goto My network Places, then "Set up a home or office network" then, pick the option "This comp connects through a another computer." (you can try the hub option, but for some reson this is the only way i could get it to work)
6. Hit next, blah blah blah. The XP comp should work now.
7. Pop the XP cd into the 98 comp, perform additional tasks, set up network.
8. Repete step 5.
9. If needed, do step 4.

At least we know you have it sorted now, if you didn't, we might think that you're an idiot. ;) So don't feel bad. We're all here to learn.
