View Full Version : Any reason for a machine to lose all its drivers?

Got called to a room earlier where a machine that had been running for ages with no problems suddenly lost all its drivers - network, grpahics, sound, so driver wise it was back to a state like a fresh windows install
Not a huge problem to fix, as most of the drivers were still in windows\system32, so it wasnt that they had gone anywhere
Just wondering what it could be thats all, it has happened before on different machines, albeit very rarely

Maybe of use (maybe not) but if you go to www.driverguide.com (http://www.driverguide.com) they've got a demo program which sooks all the drivers off you machine and stores them in a file called C:\drivers
If you store a network/pen drive etc copy you can then use it locally on each machine which is handy for driver backups for future use!

As good as the driverguide demo sounds, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole! You'll be regretting giving them your info for years.

Sorry for that post Elaine - I agree entirely. The progam is pants (and of course doesn't work properly if you store it)
Sorry to ChimpUK too - should have recommended something much better!

if something to do with mobo identification was corrupted in the bios or more likely in the windows install to make it think the mobo had been changed then every piece of hardware associated with it would need a reinstall
