I need a little help with my nephews pc, he has 2 HDs 10gb and 60gb running win xp pro, I recently (2 weeks ago) formatted both drives and reinstalled xp.....everything was fine and went as normal. Now though he has been on to me the last few days telling me everytime he shuts the pc down and restarts it, the 60gb drive says its RAW and not formatted:confused: both drives are NTFS, i'm not sure if this has ay bearing but the drive has been assigned F: were as the cd/dvd are D: and E:, anyone know whats happening ?

You can, from inside windows change the drive letters of the drives/CD drives easily from "administritive tools" -> "computer management".
I've not heard of this problem on HDs before but maybe changing the 2 HDs to C: and D: might help.
Try using a program called SpeedFan to access the HDs S.M.A.R.T. info, it will tell you all kinds of information on the health of the HDs.

What's the make/model of the 60GB drive?

It's a maxtor m8, wouldn't be sure of the model as I don't have the pc here. Just to say the HD was working fine for the last year or so this has only began after the pc was reformatted.

First, you need to download PowerMax (http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.3c67e325e0a6b1f6294198b091346068/?channelpath=/en_us/Support/Software%20Downloads/All%20Downloads&downloadID=22) and run it to check for any problems with the HD. A bootable CD image of PowerMax can be downloaded here (http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.3c67e325e0a6b1f6294198b091346068/?channelpath=/en_us/Support/Software%20Downloads/All%20Downloads&downloadID=113).
If PowerMax detects no errors on the drive, download and run MaxBlast 4 (http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.8db0c3d6932ced37294198b091346068/?channelpath=/en_us/Support/Software%20Downloads/View%20By%20Category/Desktop%20Storage/DiamondMax%20Family) to format the drive. There are bootable floppy version and CD version of the tool on that page.
