G03 is 1x certified (2x compatible with some writers). G04 is 4x.

Apart from this, G04 is a later generation, and seems to be slightly higher quality than G03 -- though they are very similar.

DVDRS aren't made for scratching or for durability nor is any other type of DVD, In an ideal world DVDs should be fingerprint free, never mind full of scratches. If you want something thats durable get DVDram (Cartridge Type) If your writer supports it.
