I have a Panasonic DMR-E30 dvd recorder, I also have a few DVD Ram discs which I bought with it. My problem is that this machine will not recognise any of my RAM discs. I thought it was a fault with my discs so I bought new ones but keep getting the same problem. Can anyone advise me on this please?
Thanks in advance

I'm not experienced with the standalone recorders but I was wondering if it was like CDs (ie have to specifically use Audio CD-Rs on standalones and data CD-Rs on the PC burners). So are there two different types of discs required for standalones and PC burners for RAM, DVD-R?

Is the ram 4.7gb type 1 or 2, And this may sound stupid but have you actually formatted these before trying to use them. This is done by pressing the Functions button on the remote and selecting disc information. FORMAT.

My Toshiba RDXS30 standalone and Hitachi MV100E mini-DVD-RAM Camcorder (Panasonic-based so the OS is similar to the E30) pick up new blanks no problem. There shouldn't be a compatibility issue between media and hardware with DVD-RAM, unless as geobon says the discs are type I (2.6/5.2Gb). *Only* 4.7Gb or 9.6Gb will work on modern standalone recorders.
RAM discs shouldn't need formatting, but it may be a good idea to give it a go.
One other suggestion might be to take the media out of the protective cartridge and see if it'll pick it up that way -- one brand of DVD-RAM I have here will not work in the RDXS30 unless I put it in as a bare disc (machine just says "No Disc" otherwise).

if they are formatted, it would say so on the box.

Yep they require formatting the 1st time their used just like a new Hard Drive does although his panasonic should still recognise them as DVDram without being formatted its just he wont be able to record on it until it is.

hmmm. you learn something new every day. i guess that either the discs i have are preformatted or the tosh does things automatically then.

Jase1, I dont think thats his problem though as he stated it didn't recognise them whatsoever, But i wouldn't worry as he dosen't seem to be as he started this thread and hasn't responded or replied.
