Newbie here, am after getting a PSP. But before doing so would like to know which one is the better one to buy:
UK
US
Jap
Asian
I'd heard that the Jap version was better due to it having a better screen and components in general, but wasn't sure if this was just talk.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?
Thanks in advance :)

There is a Limited edition UK PSP out at the end of the month. Approx £215.
The Giga Pack
includes.
Sony PSP Console
PSP Pouch
1GB Memory Stick Duo
PSP Stand
USB Cable
Battery Pack
Headphones with Remote Control
AC Adaptor
Wrist Strap
Screen Cloth
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=search&searchtype=allproducts&searchstring=giga+Pack&page=search
Which seems a good deal. As you get a 1GB memory stick, Stand, USB Cable and Screen Cloth for £35 above the normal pack.
And i am sure you will be able to find discount codes for some web sites.

Class deal that one Andy! Cheers for that.
Don't happen to know the gen on the Jap PSP though do you, as to whether it is actually a better machine?

Apparently it has a sharpe (JAP) screen instead of a samsung (USA & UK). I THINK.
I have a UK one. And screen is fine. But saying that i have never seen a JAP one, so i cant conpare them really.

Makes sense that Sony will make them 2.01 or 2.50, as they are selling a 1gig card in the package, they won't want to encourage people to downgrade!

Right I'm gonna go for one of these Giga Pack deals as it seems pretty decent, not sure whether to get one from the UK though or to get one via yesasia as mentioned above. However, before I do order one can someone please confirm that the JAP PSP has two of the buttons on the right the opposite way round from the UK Version, and if so has anyone found this affects gameplay etc at all?

Jonboy looks like just a case of waiting for things to catch up, at least 2.01 sounds like it'll be next rather than 2.50 :o now that would be a case to be gutted.

GDF - that's what it means. If Japs are on 2.01 from the box, it might be fair to assume the UK ones will be too.
I suggest buying off ebay. Got mine for £185 with a game, clear plastic case/cover, usb lead, all boxes and documentation, headphones etc. It was used, but like new, seeing as it was only 1 month since bought anyway.

As both those articles are a month old, it seems things have changed .... no doubt 2.0 was relevant then, but 2.5 has been released since.

well good for you becuase the 2.50 firmware has a built-in PS3 emulator...
but its nice to see hardcore gamers this day to spent $60,000 on a PSP's PS3 emulator.. not bad :D

That maybe ..... but you cant downgrade 2.50

yami it seems by your posts you want people to buy 2.01 and 2.5 machines yet you know these are not downgradeable. are you just bitter that you maybe bought one of these by mistake and want others to feel your pain?
This forum is here to help, not to dupe people.

it's not re-downgradeable but it is indeed refundable...
anyways, i could swore that my psp giga pack that i just brought 2 weeks ago is a version 2.0 firmware at Fry's Electronic www.outpost.com (http://www.outpost.com) and it's not even 14 days yet so i can still refund it if i want to get my $324 dollar back or exchange it for the Xbox 360 core system if they still have it in stock...
