XviD what? AVI? MKV? OGM? MP4? NSV? XviD is just a video codec.

If it is an (insert container format here) then you convert same as any other (insert container format here). Only real exception is if it uses bframes without packed bitstream enabled. In such a case you would need to trim the first padding frame.

Also re-encode to what? DVD? If so then this goes in the DVD forum. (S)VCD? If so then this should be in the VCD forum.

XVID Mpeg-4 type AVI is how it's described, and I'd like to put it on a single DVD (at the moment both parts together are to large)

@vinniedub, so you want to just put it onto DVD, but the two parts are over 4.37GB's? Seems odd as generally each part would only be ~700MB's.

@aCiDic, as I said DVD video questions go in the DVD video forum.

Nero tells me both together are almost 5.5 GB's I'm new to this but even I thought that was odd!

Nero or NVE? If you are just burning as data, then they should be the exact same size that they are on your HDD.

@ celtic_druid - I'd like to thank you for your help mate, after finding out more about this I've decided to forget it for now, thanks for the time you took to help out, much appreciated.

Zealot's AVI to VCD SVCD DVD Converter will do this for you, If the ouputed vobs are slightly larger just run it through shrink.

Thanks again folks, I finally got this done after reading a little more on it including a couple of posts by celtic_druid. I used Nero, TEMPGenc author and DVD shrink. @ geobon, got a hold of a prog similiar to the one you mentioned mate called Cucusoft AVI to VCD, DVD etc, I had already recoded to mpeg using Nero though.

errr... nero sucks at doing the mpg2 recode- at leas it did a while back (nero5.5) when i tried making svcd's from avi's- was slow too-but maybe things have changed since- would suggest using tmpgenc or preferably cce

I used latest Nero 6.3.16 and the result is very good mate. I've not checked it all the way through but the parts I have checked, the picture quality, I honestly can't tell the difference from the (my) original AVI. The one problem I have is that when the camera pans, in a wide shot, it is not a smooth motion, there is a regular, but slight, pause. I'd need to watch a large chunk to see if that makes it unwatchable. As for speed, Nero reported an estimate of under 4 hours for a movie (The Missing) of about 2hrs 20mins (but I dunno, I let it run overnight) I couldn't get TMPGenc Plus or CCE to do it (probably my fault though)

i use mainconcept encoder, and then TMPGENC DVD Author.
