Hi guys much appreciated if anyone can help

ive done searches but there are so many others with problems but didnt see anything same as mine

basically i have this spec machine:

Asus A7N8X-X SKT A Nforce2 AGP X8 Sound USB 2.0 Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP2600 333mhz
120gb hd
1.5gb ram
400w psu

also had a radeon 128mb pro 9800 card which was working fine but latest games starting to not keep up
so got a PNY 6600GT

ok i removed all ATI drivers and card from machine beforehand with that driver cleaner etc and add remove programs etc...

installed 6600gt ok with drivers that came with disk. think they are 7.7.7.2

played some games okish (call of duty 2 demo, medal of honor games etc..)

but tried some others like GTR FIA Racing and Heroes of the pacific and i get like white lines at the menus / some garbled text menus and everything seems to jerk. ive tried mucking about with in game graphics options and that hasnt worked and also tried the nvidia options on the toolbar which i cant find anything that will get rid of these lines / garbled text.

ive tried running that 3ddemo05 program and everything it runs (tests) seems really slow. is this right??

also when i go into the bios, going through some of the menus the options seem to be slow and flick slightly. didnt get this with the radeon. not sure what options to change in the bios if any. oh i had to change the CPU speed from 133mhz to 200mhz when i first built the pc as the ahtlon chip was showing up as 1.5ghz in windows. on 200mhz it comes up as it should. tried putting this back anyway but still same

Please help!!

thanks a bunch!!

p.s i did try updating the nvidia drivers but it sill happened so done everything from fresh and stuck with what came with the card for now (as the drivers seemed fairly recent and the games i was trying were older)

did you uninstall the previous drivers first. try finding all the gfx drivers and uninstall all of them, then reinstall new ones that you can download from the internet

Try uninstalling the Nvidia graphic card drivers then resetting the computer. Don't let it install any drivers when it reboots (hit cancel).

Now, go to START - SEARCH - FOR FILES OR FOLDERS and do a search for all files and folders using the filename ati*.*

This search will normally give you 3 to 4 files found in your c:/windows directory and subdirectories (including the Windows/System directory). Select these files and erase them. Now go to your Recycle Bin and Empty your bin.

Next, go to your registry (START -- RUN -- regedit)

Here go to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -- SYSTEM -- ControlSet001 -- Control -- Video . Here there should be 4 entries. 3 of them are default Windows XP entries and the 4th one is put in by the ATI drivers. Expand each one by one until you see ATI entries. Once found, erase the entire key.

Now repeat the same step above for the ControlSet002 key and the CurrentControlSet Key. Normally, whenever you erase a key in the ControlSet001, XP automatically deletes it in the CurrentControlSet section too. So if the ATI key is not found in the CurrentControlSet section, don't worry about it.

While still in the registry, go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -- SOFTWARE section. Here you should find an ATI Technologies key. Select it and delete it. In that same section, look for an Installed Options key. Expand it and there you should find another ATI Technologies key. Select it and erase it.

Still in the registry, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -- Software and there you should find another ATI technologies key. Select it and erase it. Once all this is done, close the registry. the registry is now clean.

Close all windows and reboot.

Again, windows will alert you you about new hardware. Hit cancel again.

Goto your nVidia graphic drivers and install them then reboot.

Now install the latest DirectX drivers and reboot again.

This should mean your system is totally free of anything ATi related.

Always hate to sound grim but as ATI and nVidia aren't the greatest of pals I've had to rebuild several machines in the workshop to get the results 'gamer customers' want.

Although a pain in the backside it does get round any residual Win Driver/Registry entry issues which I'm not convinced any 'Registry Fix' program will resolve.

Just a thought ;)

ok. so maybe a complete fresh install of windows xp, then the card?
